With Genni Sasnett, Independent Human Services Consultant and National Subject Matter Expert,
Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP)
Session attendees will learn what a successful community based day service can and should do for participants including:
¨ Acting as a pathway for community integrated employment;
¨ Providing “wrap-around” support for unemployed or underemployed people who are seeking additional employment or for those who require additional support to enhance their employment experience;
¨ Providing retirement support for individuals who are past working age;
¨ Serving as the best and most functional approach for people to acquire new skills;
¨ Supporting relationship development between people with disabilities and their non-disabled community peers;
¨ And ultimately changing society’s perception of people with disabilities and the valuable contributions they are able to make in their communities and beyond.
Ms. Sasnett will share the “nuts and bolts” of creating and managing strong, carefully structured and highly accountable community based day services, based on her personal experience. Attendees should leave the session with the beginnings of a plan for future service and a great deal of excitement about the possibilities.
